PP VS PU Plastic
Polypropylene (PP) also known as polypropane, is a thermoplastic polymer used in a variety of applications. The most common usage of polypropylene is automotive industry.
Due to the fact that polypropylene is a dense thermo resistive and shock proof plastic most bumpers and car accessories such as side skirts and spoilers are made of polypropylene.
The biggest advantage of polypropylene is the density of this material that makes it shock absorbing. For example a fiberglass bumper tends to crack when physical shock is applied, polypropylene when suffers physical shock absorbs the shock and then takes the initial form.
Other advantages of polypropylene are constituted by high temperature melting point due to this fact polypropylene is safe when is used to manufacture parts that are placed near heat sources, as an example we can think about rear bumper air diffusers which are placed near exhaust pipes.
To colour match spray paint on PP front lip is no difference then respray a factory bumper,PU plastic one will be hard to prep as those PU plastic will keep sticking on sand paper.
Polyurethane (PUR and PU)
Polyurethane is a large family of polymers with widely ranging properties and it is mostly common in automotive industry and comes in many varieties (e.g. Soft, solid, rigid or flexible) however due to the fact that polyurethane tend to damage in time it is not the best solution for accessories such as bumpers and side skirts.
Polyurethane has a structure more porous structure and thats why exposed to heat or direct sunlight, polyurethane bumpers suffers damages and loss of resistivity and flexibility.
In our point of view the quality is our first concern so our customers must be informed in relate with this products but however the customer has the freedom to choose what is best for him.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Polypropylene is more durable due to the fact that resist better in time, thermal and physical shock but however has a higher price.
Polyurethane becomes stiff in time especially when it is exposed to UV radiations. The advantage of polyurethane is represented by the price.
